The fried chicken sandwich is a southern staple.
It’s history began with Scottish immigrants who settled in the south and the recipe was flipped and twisted over the years to the point where almost everyone has their own unique spin on the dish. Chick-Fil-A probably has the most recognizable chicken sandwich — you know, the one with two pickles on the bottom bun — but even it didn’t crack a selective recent ranking.
As part of its “10 Best” power rankings, USA Today has released a list of the 10 Best Fried Chicken Sandwiches in Georgia. While sandwiches from Augusta and Douglas came in at the very top, the third best sandwich came from Peach & The Porkchop, an eatery nestled in north Fulton County.
The sandwich — dubbed the “Jim II” for the father and son duo who sparked its creation — came in at third on list, which the highest ranking for any slab of chicken slapped between two slices of bread from metro Atlanta.
The Jim II is simple and spicy. The $16 dish is a fried chicken breast topped with grilled jalapeños, sautéed onions, mushrooms, bacon and pepper jack cheese on a freshly baked bun.
It’s available on Peach & The Porkchop’s daily menu, which is offered during lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday. Peach & The Porkchop is the only Roswell restaurant to be named on the list.
Other restaurants from metro Atlanta that were named on the list include Industry Tavern, Goldbergs Bagel Company & Deli, The Rooster King, Atkins Park Restaurant, Rock's Chicken & Fries, Wright’s Gourmet Sandwich Shoppe, and Home Grown.
