1. Play from the teebox that fits the game, not your ego.
2. Carry an extra ball in your pocket in case a shot goes out of play.
3. Survey the shot, select a club, stand at the ball and be ready to hit when it's your turn.
4. Cart drivers should drop off a partner, then go to his or her ball, rather than waiting for the partner to hit.
5. When leaving the cart for an approach shot, bring along a putter and sand wedge. It might avoid antoher trip to the cart.
6. Limit search for lost balls to only a couple of minutes.
7. Line up a putt before it's your turn.
8. Proceed to the next tee before completing your scoreboard.
Combating slow play
Most courses have procedures for dealing with slow players:
First offense: A warning is given to keep up with the group in front.
Second offense: Golfers in the slow group are aksed to pick up their balls and catch up to the group in front of them.
Third offense: Golfers are asked to leave the golf course. (Some courses allow a refund; some do not.)
