Thousands of cyclists, skaters, walkers and runners use the non-motorized Silver Comet Trail each week.

The asphalt and concrete trail, which uses an abandoned rail corridor, runs from Smyrna, Ga., in Cobb County west through Paulding and Polk counties to one mile west of the city of Rockmart, Ga. The trail discontinues for eleven miles before resuming again just west of Cedartown, Ga. and is complete to the Alabama line. Currently, 49 miles of the planned 60 miles of trail is complete.

Points of interest: Trail highlights include crossing the Pumpkinvine Creek Trestle — a 750 foot long, 126 foot high bridge (from the Rambo trailhead, travel west for .8 mile) and further west, the 800 foot Brushy Mountain tunnel (between Mt. Olivet and Coot's Lake Road trailheads).

Hours: Dawn to dusk, closed at night.

Trail use: The trail is open to cyclists, skaters, runners, walkers, pets on leashes, baby strollers and wheelchairs. Horses are welcome starting at the Florence Road trailhead and traveling to all points west.
