SPIRITS

Taverna Plaka's Cucumber Martini

Published on: 03/23/2006

FIRST SIGN OF SPRING

Spring is in the air. Here at Spirits, our first sign wasn't blooming flowers or premature Easter bunnies. We just took one look at the martini menu at Taverna Plaka (2196 Cheshire Bridge Road, Atlanta). The restaurant/bar — known for its flying napkins — is attempting to capture the vibe of the season with some new drinks. These imaginative additions include its Carrot-Tangerine, Cucumber and Kiwi martinis.

GOLD DIGGER

If you think the prize at the end of a rainbow comes from behind a bar, this may be the one. The Pot-O-Gold martini takes 1 ounce each of Beefeater gin, creme de menthe and light cream. Keep the St. Paddy's spirit alive all month long, and pick up some green and gold sugar at a baking supply store. Rim a martini glass in lime juice and add the sugar to the rim. Shake ingredients over ice and strain into the glass.
