Trattoria Monaco: Blood Orange Bellini

Published on: 05/05/2005

LONG, LEAN BELLINIRITA

Trattoria Monaco (5530 Windward Parkway, Alpharetta) has a duo of cocktails well suited for the season. Red is the color of the Blood Orange Bellini, a morphing of blood orange purée and sparkling prosecco wine dressed up in a champagne flute. Its Italian Ice Martini is simply 1 ounce of Lemoncello and 3 ounces of Absolut Citron vodka shaken and drained into a chilled martini glass.

MOM'S THE WORD

Mother's Day doesn't have to be tea and finger sandwiches. Sauce up the matriarch with A Mother's Love. Beefeater suggests 2 ounces of its Wet gin, 1 ounce of passion fruit syrup and a tablespoon of strawberry syrup. Add the ingredients to a champagne flute packed with crushed ice. Top it off with a bit of Sprite. Give Mom the fancy garnish she deserves with mint leaves, a strawberry and a twist of orange.

DEAR MOM

If your mom modeled herself after Joan Crawford, maybe a memory fogger would help make Mother's Day that much easier to stomach. The Mommy Dearest might do the job, with 2 ounces of Malibu pineapple rum, 1/2 ounce of triple sec, 2 ounces of lime juice and 2 ounces of soda water. Garnish with mint leaves. And remember: "No wire hangers!"
