HOT MAMA

Being a matriarch is no walk in the park. The Morningside location of Food 101 (1395 North Highland Ave. N.E., Atlanta) might have the brunch time escape some moms crave, just in time for Mother's Day. Its 101 Bloody Mary gets spicy with Absolut Peppar vodka, tomato juice and shrimp. Bartenders line the rim of the glass with Old Bay Seasoning. Food 101 offers the drink during its Saturday and Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

STILL FASHIONABLE

No matter your age, the Old-Fashioned cocktail doesn't have the most marketable title. According to cocktailtimes.com, mixmeister Junior Merino gives it a contemporary take and a PC name. At the Modern restaurant/bar in New York's Museum of Modern Art, he calls it the Elder Fashioned. Merino begins by muddling 1/6 of a Bartlett pear and 1/10 of a navel orange with half an ounce of elder flower syrup. He combines the mixture and 1 1/2 oz. of blended Scotch whiskey in a shaker over ice. Finally, he strains it into an old-fashioned glass and tops with 1 ounce of champagne. A garnish of an orange twist adds lounge-style cool.

ALL YOU CAN DRINK

Some beer menus read like phone books. Who has the time, budget and liver to try them all? The East Atlanta Beer Festival lets brew hounds sample a bevy of suds. On May 12 from 1-6 p.m., guests pay $25 for access to a mess of domestic and import brands, from local faves like Sweetwater and Red Brick Ale to Belgian blasts like Wittekerke. Tickets include a sampling glass, a Koozie and live music. The fest takes place on Metropolitan Avenue in the heart of East Atlanta.
