CHILLY POMEGRANATE
What comes to mind when you think of drinks and Mexico? Let's see ... Corona and a slice of lime, a bottle of tequila with a worm floater. But pomegranates? Rosa Mexicano Restaurant (245 18th St., Atlanta) opens early this month at Atlantic Station. And with it comes the frozen Pomegranate Margarita. A signature in the Rosa Mexicano chain, it calls for fresh pomegranate juice, tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice.
HEY, KOOL-AID
When you're a kid, about the only facial accessory you have is the occasional Kool-Aid mustache. Bartenders at Mix (1441 Dresden Drive, Atlanta) are staying in grade school spirit with the Creamsicle Kool Mix Martini. A small packet of orange Kool-Aid powder joins one cup of sugar and two cups of water. Stir it up. The mixture then goes into a shaker with ice, along with 1 ounce of vanilla vodka and 1/2 ounce of heavy cream. Shake and pour into a martini glass. You're not 7 anymore, so use a cocktail straw.
SIP, DON'T SLIP
So, you have an aversion to Kool-Aid. Another option at Mix is the Lady Slipper. Bartenders shake 1 1/2 ounces of raspberry-flavored vodka, 1/2 ounce of ginger beer and the juice of one key lime over ice. They deliver it in a martini glass dressed up with a raspberry garnish.
