A PIRATE'S LIFE

Wonder how Johnny Depp perfects his sway and stagger in his swashbuckling movie series? Spirits has a theory. Perhaps the actor stumbled upon the Pirates of the Caribbean recipe at www.drinksmixer.com. We imagine he shivers his timbers with coconut rum, banana schnapps, peach schnapps, and cranberry, orange and pineapple juices. Note to Depp and Depp wannabes: Don't go overboard. Let's keep those trashed hotel rooms in the past.

GARDEN PARTY

On the last Wednesday of each month, it's cocktail time at the Atlanta Botanical Garden (1345 Piedmont Ave. N.E., Midtown). The Cocktails in the Garden series on the last Wednesday of each month offers a signature drink to go along with each evening's theme. For Waterlilies and Whippersnappers on July 26, the drink du jour is the Whippersnapper. The folks at Restaurant Eugene created this union of rum and Fresca. A recipe for youth? Not likely. But at the garden, it's one to grow on.

'RITAS RULE

Margaritas rule at Cantina La Casita in East Atlanta Village (560 Gresham Ave., Atlanta). The list stretches down the menu with a collection of colorful names like Bay Breezarita, Sunsplash and La Ultima. There's even a 'rita built for two. The Casitarita combines Patron tequila, Grand Marnier and limeade. A shot of Cointreau comes on the side, and servers add it to the drink at the table. According to the staff, some customers prefer to keep the shot separate for sipping.
