SPIRITS
For Elvis, Blue Suede MistPublished on: 08/03/2006
ELVIS IS EVERYWHERE
The King died 29 years ago. But that's not stopping folks from celebrating Elvis Presley's legacy any chance they can. From Mike Geier's Elvis Memorial Spectacular at the Variety Playhouse on Aug. 12 to the upcoming Elvis Week fan gathering in Memphis, he still has fans all shook up. The recent Elvis Festival in Collingwood, Ontario (Canada) even spawned its own cocktail, the Blue Suede Mist. Canadian Mist whiskey, blue curaçao, lemon-lime soda and lemonade sound like a recipe for uncontrollable pelvic thrusts.
DOLLAR DAYS
Pinch pennies in style at Aqua Bistro (264 Pharr Road, Atlanta). Its $1 Martini Night features five drinks including its melon, apple and classic vodka martinis. The signature Aqua Martini includes blue curaçao, vodka, triple sec and sweet and sour. Get the special cocktail, which comes in a 7 1/2-ounce glass, from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays.
RACE DAY
As race car comedy "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" (starring Will Ferrell) hits theaters, Spirits suggests something with an even funnier name. We found the Skid Marks shot on www.webtender.com. Simple and sweet, it calls for a shot of Kahlúa and a tablespoon of chocolate syrup. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines.
