This Little Five Points restaurant is one of those little labor-of-love enterprises that you have to root for.

In September, the quirky-cute breakfast and lunch place took over the space on Euclid Avenue that was once home to Bridgetown Grill, and most recently Mangrove Alley. Lately, on morning and afternoon visits, it hasn't exactly been difficult to snag a table, though weekend brunch is always much more crowded.

WINDOWS ON THE PARK: On sunny days, the long, slim eating area is brightened by the tall front windows that look out on Finley Park, home to a kaleidoscope of L5P street life. Exposed brick, rustic tile floors, basic tables and chairs, and local art work merge to make for a simple but pleasant atmosphere. A couple of glass cases with baked goods and a small counter with stools are squeezed into one corner.

BREAKFAST ALL DAY: Grandma Luke's owners Brigette Killion and Carl Wilson certainly seem to have heeded the admonition that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, because it's served all day here. Order the Kick Ass Breakfast — two buttermilk hotcakes, two eggs, roasted potatoes, cheese grits and choice of bacon, ham or sausage — and you probably won't be hungry until dinner. Wilson's signature dish is hefty banana bread French toast, basically banana bread dipped in eggs and milk and grilled. But the saucer-size, fluffy and golden, caramelized banana hotcakes are even better. You can also get the hotcakes plain or with blueberries or chocolate chips. For more savory options, build your own omelet or order a la carte and include a couple of buttery biscuits.

LUNCH AFTER 11: The BLT appears on the breakfast menu with eggs and potatoes or grits. And it shows up again at lunch, served daily after 11 a.m. A little twist on the classic BLT, it features a tasty combo Applewood smoked bacon, spring greens, sliced tomato and mayo on sweetish toasted Hawaiian bread, with a bag of Zapp's potato chips. The oddly named Hillbilly Cuban doesn't contain possum or anything like that; it's a spiced-up layering of blackened chicken breast, pepperjack cheese, pickles and pepper mayo on grilled Cuban bread. Go meatless (or Elvis) with grilled peanut butter and bananas or grilled cheese and tomato.

BAKERY MADE: For dessert, Wilson bakes a variety of cookies, cakes and other sweet treats. Look for chocolate chip cookies, Oreo cheesecake and chocolate-covered strawberries. Dense, rich fudge cake is a popular favorite. And peanut butter sandwich cookies are a nutty duo, with peanut butter frosting in-between. For special occasions, you can order custom cakes and the kitchen does catering for parties and meetings.
