Northsiders seem to have an enormous appetite for pizza. The area is rife with restaurants that turn out pies to eat in or take out, but that hasn't stopped two area entrepreneurs from adding two more pizza destinations to the dining scene.
• In Alpharetta, Glenn Hockert has imported the first fast-casual Z Pizza from California and expects to have another five on the Northside soon. The concept is pizza with a healthy twist.
"We start with two kinds of dough — whole wheat or regular — and then offer fresh, healthy toppings," said Hockert. "We use a skim mozzarella and all our sauces and vegetables are organic."
Pick up a Napoli, with garlic sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, basil and tomatoes, or a ZBQ, covered in barbecued chicken. The pies come in 10-, 14- and 18-inch rounds, but there are also four varieties available by the slice every day. Other menu items include calzones, antipasto platters, salads, sandwiches of chicken curry, turkey, veggies or tuna and subs with meatballs and Italian meats.
As part of its health-conscious attitude, Z Pizza lists all its nutritional values online. The menu has also been ranked with Weight Watchers points.
There's a short alcohol list with bottled beers and wines by the glass or bottle, largely from boutique producers.
