With a name like Cocktail Cove, you'd expect there to be a marina nearby. And there is — if you trek to the original Cocktail Cove Grill and Bar not far from the shores of Lake Lanier. That location has been a hit for more than a year. But now you don't have to head to the water's edge to find the same food and fun.

The former American Pie on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs has been transformed into a second Cocktail Cove, where the view is a bit more concrete and asphalt, but the atmosphere is closer to a day at the beach. A lot of cleaning, fresh paint and a few more flat screens went into the new look, while the expansive deck and the giant windows remained in place.

"The good thing is, there's a long legacy of the Pie and everyone knows where it is," said operator David Burleson. "We're a lot like the Pie, but with a much bigger menu."

It's all here

The five-page menu covers just about every food craving. Start with toasted ravioli, fried mushrooms, cheese sticks, calamari, popcorn shrimp, crab cakes, quesadillas, coconut shrimp and nachos. Wings come in orders of 10 to 50 and eight sauces in varying degrees of heat. Dive right into the seafood: oysters Rockefeller and by the half shell, or, if it's Tuesday, a platter of all-you-can-eat crab legs. Other sea treats include shrimp and scallops over bow tie pasta; fried or Florentine grouper; jerk or Cuban tilapia; sesame salmon; or fried catfish, oysters and shrimp.

The Cove is known for its slow-roasted pork Cuban sandwich, leading a list that includes chicken, tilapia and grouper, as well as po' boys with oysters, catfish and shrimp. Meat lovers will lean toward the half-pound burger, hanger steak, New York strip and Jack Daniel's-rubbed ribs. Wraps, salads, soups and baskets of fried favorites are also available.

Those on a quest to eat odd fried foods will want to order the fried Musketeer sundae, ice cream piled atop a fried candy bar.

From the bar

There are four bars to belly up to — two inside and two outside. All are well-supplied with six draft beers and another 14 in bottles. Six house wines are sold by the glass and the list of bottles on hand is growing. The full cocktail menu stars two frozen specialties: a margarita and rum Hurricane. Daily drink specials are also available.

Sunday features live bands; Monday night is for Texas Hold 'Em. Look for more entertainment options in the upcoming months.
