After being consistently creamed by critics and amid sagging sales, the corporate office of Emeril's Atlanta announced Monday the Buckhead restaurant will permanently close April 30, following dinner.
"Emeril's Atlanta is the only restaurant we have ever closed and we are very sad about having to do so," chef Emeril Lagasse said via a prepared statement e-mailed to Buzz. "We tried very hard for four years to achieve the results we had hoped for. We will miss having a presence here. We have made a lot of friends in the Atlanta community but unfortunately were never able to generate the volume we expected when we entered the market."

The restaurant at One Alliance Center, named for the Food Network phenom, opened with great fanfare in 2003. But the eatery encountered negative reviews and consistent shifts in the kitchen and management staffs. Lagasse's fans, meanwhile, were often disappointed that he was not a more prominent presence at the Atlanta property.
Reps for Emeril's Homebase on Monday said the closure "was a difficult business decision based on the restaurant's not having consistently met sales expectations. The Emeril's restaurant company remains strong and will continue to expand into new locations." Lagasse currently operates 10 other restaurants in five cities, including his newest, Table 10, which opened in February 2008 in Las Vegas.
The Atlanta Emeril's 53 full and part-time staffers, however, are being looked after. The company announced it would offer a severance package to all employees and work to place staffers at its other locations across the country.
Said Emeril's Homebase vice-president Eric Linquest: "The Emeril's brand remains strong, and we remain committed to a steady pace of expansion that allows us to create exceptional restaurants while maintaining the standards of quality and creativity that Emeril is known for."

My husband and I loved going to Emerils every year to celebrate our anniversary. This year we celebrated our 25th and have been looking forward to our special night at Emerils in Atlanta. We have also taken our children to the Emerils at Universal Park which they still talk about. We are so disappointed to hear that it has closed and we will no longer be able to enjoy the great food and service there.

I was shocked to hear that they were closing! I have never had anything but good service and great steak or duck when I went there. My husband and I went there probaably like 15 times and each time we saw the same people working and the place was always packed. SOrry to see them go

Perhaps its a good thing Emeril's is closing after hearing bad reviews from day 1. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. Maybe he spread himself too thin with all of the other projects on his plate and could not be effective in overseeing and executing this particular restaurant. My wife and I had the opportunity to dine in one of his New Orleans restaurants, NOLA, with some business partners. The wait staff was perfect, from communicating the menu to service the whole night. However, the food was mediocre at best. My wife sent her filet back 3 times before finally they took it off the bill, and it still was not cooked right. Who can't cook a steak right, specially in a restaurant like that? I ordered a signature, Shrimp and Grits. The grits were lumpy and old, cooked to the bottom of the bowl, and to my surprise, found a solid piece of cold, yes, cold cheese in the middle of my grits. Perhaps the Chef de Cuisine was not paying enough attention to what was going on. Maybe he should go back to preparing and basic execution to hone his skills. What really gets me is that a corporate exec chef for Emeril's was there during service. Maybe he should have been more involved in the proper execution of the preparation, presentation and management of the kitchen. Maybe Buckhead Life Group will open a new concept, or perhaps Tom Catheral, or maybe Concentrics, they all seem to have their game together.

I'm an African American and native Atlantan and I must say I'm offended by some of the comments. I went to Emerils Atlanta last year and enjoyed the food and service. To say that the restaurant is closing because of blacks or "negro patrons is asinine. Its probably safe to say that not only blacks but other races in general didn't like their experiences at the establishment. In addition, a number of people are bashing the south. I'm only assuming, but aren't you now living in the south? If so that seems hypocritical because you don't have to live here.

What in the world is going on with this blog?? I was reading this blog yesterday and everything seem fine and I come back today and there we go again Atlanta, somebody throws the race card out there and we get off subject. I REALLY HOPE people aren't saying that African American's are the reason for the downfall of this restaurant?? If the food isn't good? If the service is bad? Then I believe it's time to close up shop. So what? African Americans are more picky when it comes to their food, if it's nasty, why sit there and eat it and pay for it?? This shouldn't be a race thing people. All these fine restaurants in this city, one shuts it doors, and people go crazy, go ignorant and throw the race card out there. This is so pitiful.

These comments are a real hoot! I hate to say it, but I'm of-color and I've witnessed a few of my of-color friends complain ad nauseum about their meal to the point that they want it free. I refuse to dine with them after stunts (yes, STUNTS) like that. Sometimes we people of color can give ourselves a bad name!

Actually, Emeril was born in Massachusetts and learned his cooking craft in Rhode Island and France. He only started cooking Cajun when he took over Commander's Palace in New Orleans in 1982.
I have no doubt he can cook some good Cajun food, but don't mistake him for a Southerner. He's not.

To Those Narrow Minded Folks bashing everything Southern:
Ummm.....Emerill is from the South (Louisiana)...so your comments are a bit misplaced (ignoring the fact that they are meritless in the first place).
Additionally, to WILMA specifically, you have gravy in the north you stupid b1tch! You guys (ya'll) just use fancy names for it. Rue, Bordelaise, Remoulade, Bernaise, etc
Don't be so vile next time Wilma you ignorant cow!
