SPIRITS
Stat's Slap ShotPublished on: 01/10/2008
No matter how the Thrashers are doing, there's always liquid hockey action with the Slap Shot at Stats (300 Marietta St. N.W., Atlanta). Barkeeps at the snazzy sports spot pair Chambord and Frangelico in a martini glass with an amaretto-based whipped topper. Other sporty cocktails include the fruity Red Card and the rum-heavy Knock Out.
SPICE IT UP
The Winter Spice Martini pouring at Marlow's Tavern (3719 Old Alabama Road, Alpharetta, and other locations) has serious seasonal cred. One ounce each of Absolut vanilla vodka and Voyant chai cream swims with 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice. The top gets decorated with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
TOAST TO TABLOIDS
Marvin Allen, bartender at Carousel Lounge (214 Rue Royale, New Orleans) created a drink that looks back on one of the biggest 2007's tabloid headlines. With a nod to Britney Spears' infamous shave job, he pours the Shorn Identity. The exhaustive ingredients call for 1 1/4 parts Maker's Mark bourbon, juice from a whole lemon, juice from half of a lime, one part simple syrup, one egg white, and three to four drops of orange flower water. Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice until it's chilled and frothy. Strain into a sugar-rimmed martini glass. Swirl a few drops of bitters on the top.
