If you're in the Due West area and in a big hurry, there's a new place to grab a pizza, sub, burger or salad. PieZoni's has opened its doors at 3960 Mary Eliza Trace, just off Due West Road. It's the Rhode Island-based operation's first venture into the South.
Start off with curly fries, jalapeno poppers, chicken fingers or boneless Buffalo wings while you're waiting on a pizza made with your favorite toppings. There's also a menu of 17 specialty pies, including the Greek, with feta and olives; the Hawaiian, with ham and pineapple; and the Steak Bomb, with shaved steak, peppers, onions and mushrooms.
Subs range from the traditional Italian, meatball and pastrami to the eggplant Parm, chicken Caesar, steak and cheese and the boneless buffalo chicken. Fill a calzone with your preferred ingredients, or go for a burger or hot dog. Heartier fare includes baked ziti, spaghetti and chicken, veal or eggplant Parmigiana.
Prices are family friendly, with pizzas starting at $5.49 and going up to $16.99. Subs range from $4.49 to $6.99; entrees from $6.29 to $7.99. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays through Thursdays; 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. 770-419-2188; www.piezonis.com.
• Here's a progressive dinner that doesn't require you to bring a dish or make sure the dining room is dusted. Your hosts are the chefs from sister restaurants the River Room and the Vinings Inn. On Monday, they're putting on a five-course progressive wine dinner that starts at 7 p.m. with a champagne reception at the Inn.
Sit down in Vinings to the first two courses, chef Victor Amato's Low Country-inspired sushi and braised chicken flautas. Then head to the River Room, where chef Joseph Rahme will serve seared foie gras with grilled rosemary pound cake; grilled venison chops with a walnut flan; and roasted apple brulee with vanilla ice cream. Each course will be matched with wines.
Reservations are $95 per person and include transportation and valet parking. Save a seat by calling the River Room, 4403 Northside Parkway, at 404-233-5455; www.riverroom.com. The Vinings Inn is located at 3011 Paces Mill Road.
• You have until the end of the month to check out the three new seafood dishes on the menu of Boneheads Grilled Fish, 2022 Powers Ferry Road in Marietta. A crispy seafood platter comes with pollock, bay scallops and shrimp, with fries, Asian slaw and remoulade sauce. There's also a lump crab scampi, prepared with big bits of crab sauteed in a white wine, garlic and herb sauce. Each dish is priced below $10.
Boneheads' regular menu featuring grilled salmon, tilapia, mahi and chicken dishes is still available. For details, call 770-951-9998, or go to www.eatboneheads.com.
