Paula Deen a highlight of cooking event at Cobb center

You've seen her on TV. Now catch her live at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Super Southern chef and cookbook author Paula Deen will make two appearances at the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show this Saturday and Sunday. The perky Savannah-based star is bringing along her two sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen, as well.

The three will whip up several Southern treats from her cookbooks in the show kitchen at 3 p.m. each day. Before she cooks, Deen will host a luncheon and book signing for 160 fans.

Local chefs including Tom Harvey of One, Linton Hopkins of Restaurant Eugene, Todd Ginsberg of Tap and Scott Peacock of Watershed will also be doing cooking demos.

Other weekend highlights include workshops on a range of topics, including knife skills, table settings and crafts. Among the goodies offered for tasting are chocolate, cheese, wine, beer and tea.

The show runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Tickets for the Deen cooking exhibition are $65 to $95; luncheon tickets are $100. Order online at www.metrocooking.com.

• It's the season for food festivals and this weekend, the cooks head to east Cobb. The third annual Taste of East Cobb is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Merchants Walk, 1299 Johnson Ferry Road. Area chefs will be on hand to ply the public with samples of their seafood, steak, barbecue and sweet treats. Among the participating eateries: Bruster's ice cream, Bradley's, Chin Chin, Famous Dave's barbecue, Curbside Café, Flying Biscuit, Sal Grosso and Sapporo.

Along with food, the festival features live entertainment, crafts, kids' games and a silent auction. Admission is free; tastes are $1 to $3, cash only. The rain-or-shine event benefits the Walton Band and Orchestra Parents Association. Details are online at www.tasteofeastcobb.com.

• If you haven't been to the revamped Ray's on the River lately, now would be a great time to drop by. The riverside grounds are awash in spring color — including green, which you'll save on, because Ray's has lowered the price of its famous Sunday brunch. Guests can now indulge in more than 50 items for $23.95 per person.

Start with made-to-order omelets, eggs Benedict or Belgian waffle and move on to prime rib, country ham, roasted pork loin or leg of lamb. The spread also features trays of cold seafood treats, salads and a lavish dessert selection.
