The AccessAtlanta.com Fishing Guide
Chattahoochee River
(Buford Dam to Peachtree Creek)

The basics
Fish: Brown & rainbow trout, yellow perch, largemouth, striped & shoal bass, chain pickerel, bream, catfish, and crappie
Size: 48 mile stretch of trout water begins at the base of Buford Dam
Access: From Buford Dam to Ga 400, 19 public access points offer bank access, wading, and boating opportunities. The 12-mile section of river from Morgan Falls Dam to Peachtree Creek is much wider and shallower, therefore, water levels do not fluctuate as much. Storm flows can still make this section of the river unwadeable at times; call 404-329-1455 for river conditions prior to fishing.
Restrictions: Since the upper section of the Chattahoochee is subject to rapid water rise, personal flotation devices are required from Buford Dam to SR 20
More info: Printed maps of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area are available online or by calling 770-918-6418; printed directions to the Delayed Harvest section also available. For water release schedules call Bufford Dam, 770-945-1466; Morgan Falls Dam, 404-329-1455
Directions: From Atlanta, follow I-85 north to I-985, then follow the signs
