[Update 6:30 p.m.: What an incredible response!
Thank you all for sharing your stories. I promise you, I read every one, from the folks in Milledgeville and Newnan to the 17-year-old lifetime fan to the people who are going through rough times either financially or personally and just want a night out to those of you who remember seeing George as kids or want to take your own to experience an old-school country show.
And some of your entries were just plain funny and filled with obvious admiration for the Possum.
So let’s congratulate Beth A. of Atlanta who was our randomly chosen winner for the pair of front row tickets.
But those of you who aren’t Beth, hang on...
Because of the tremendous response, I’m talking to our Fox Theatre friends about another opportunity for you to see Jones, so check back here Monday and I’ll have the details for you. And, in the meantime, there are still tickets left for the show (some people mentioned they couldn’t purchase tickets because the concert is sold out, but it isn’t yet). Scroll down for details about where you can buy them.]
Thanks again, everyone, for the time and thought you put into your responses.
Cheers,
Melissa]
The Possum is coming to town one final time and we’ve got a pair of tickets to see him.
Yes, country legend George Jones has announced that his current “Grand Tour” (named after his 1974 song and album) is his last live hurrah.
He and the Jones Boys will bring a catalog of more than 50 years of hits to the Fox Theatre at 7:30 p.m. April 19, and our friends at the venue have bestowed us with a pair of front row – yes, front row – tickets to give away.
Just email me at mruggieri@ajc.com with “George” in the subject line and tell me why you love Mr. Jones. I’ll randomly select a winner at 6 p.m. today; the winner can pick up the tickets at will call on the night of the show. Oh, and while it isn’t a requirement to be entered to win, a follow on Twitter @ajc_music would be appreciated.
Also, tickets to the show are still available for purchase for $39.75-$53.95 at the venue box office, by calling 1-855-ATL-TIXX or by clicking here.
Jones is saying goodbye to touring at 81 because he wants to slow down and spend more time with his family. His final show will be Nov. 22 in Nashville and a parade of musical stars including Garth Brooks, Cyndi Lauper, Don McLean, Kenny Rogers, Kid Rock, Shelby Lynne and Alan Jackson have signed up to honor the legend during that last concert.
