Beyonce ripped out her hits during the Super Bowl halftime show.

[Updated 11:58 p.m.: In a case of convenient timing, Beyonce has just announced her world tour, dubbed "The Mrs. Carter Show." Her U.S. dates begin June 28 in L.A.; she'll visit The Arena at Gwinnett Center on July 12. Tickets for the Atlanta show, priced at $45-$250, are on sale at 10 a.m. Feb. 16 through all Ticketmaster outlets. All floor tickets are general admission. The worldwide tour, which is expected to run almost a year, kicks off April 15 in Belgrade, Serbia.]

Well, hello, Sasha Fierce.

You know Beyonce was singing live during her Super Bowl halftime performance because a) she wanted to silence those who criticized her choice to sing to a pre-recorded track at the presidential inauguration and b) you could barely hear her through the first half of the 12-minute show thanks to the crowd noise, a roar trapped by the Superdome roof.

She was also determined to direct an “I’ll-show-you” glare at the camera at every possible moment, even ending the snappy “Crazy in Love” by sassily blowing a kiss toward the lens.

But hey, when you’re Beyonce and you feel like you have something to prove, you’re going to attack like that cheetah going after something slower than a cheetah in that commercial for sneakers (or whatever that was).

She certainly looked sexy in a leather-and-lace leotard and knee-high black stockings, dancing furiously around her all-girl band (her guitarist's instrument  blew fire from both ends -- somewhere, Gene Simmons was smirking) and even briefly paying homage to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video with her stomping moves at the beginning of “End of Time.”

Moments after “Baby Boy,” a high-tech production featuring Beyonce lookalikes, an alarm sounded the arrival of her former Destiny’s Child mates, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

They, too, looked great in their matching black shorty-dress-leotard outfits as the trio powered through “Bootylicious” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” But their voices were no match for Bey’s and the reunion only served as a reminder of why Beyonce was queen bee of that hive.

And so the queen finished solo, tackling “Halo” with passionate shrieks and the swirling effects of a wind machine.

“Thank you for this moment,” she said to the crowd at the end of the production, looking genuinely happy and a bit relieved.

But was it a memorable Super Bowl halftime performance, one that we’ll be talking about on Monday after the Twitter chatter has died down? Not in the least.

Here’s a look at some of my favorite previous halftime performances.
