ESSENCE Black Women in Music event
Matt Sayles
Solange Knowles attends the fourth annual ESSENCE Black Women in Music reception at the Greystone Manor, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 in Los Angeles.

TODAY
Big Mike Geier’s ‘Elvis Royale’
It’s been more than 30 years since Elvis Presley’s death, but it seems nothing can dull the king’s shine.
This annual tribute is headlined by Kingsized, a supremely entertaining retro combo led by imposing singer-actor Mike Geier. The festivities are gussied up with an injection of Vegas cheese by the glamorous Dames Aflame burlesque troupe.
8:30 Feb. 22. $26. Variety Playhouse, 1099 Euclid Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 404-524-7354.

SATURDAY
Corey Smith
Smith has carved out a career without the music mainstream’s star-maker machinery. The Jefferson native and University of Georgia grad melds country, rock and blues and plays to packed houses across the Southeast. He gets the Bulldog faithful going with “Every Dawg” and keeps the spring-break spirit alive for the post-grad crowd with “If I Could Do It Again.” His latest album is “Live in Chattanooga,” which captures him in front of a sold-out crowd at the Tennessee city’s Track 29.
8 p.m. Feb. 23. $24.50. Tabernacle, 152 Luckie St. N.W., Atlanta. 404-659-9022.

So So Def All-StarAnniversary Concert
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Xscape’s debut, which also marked the debut of Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Recordings. Two decades later, one of Xscape’s members, Kandi Burruss, is a regular presence on TV in “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Burruss also brought vocal group Jagged Edge to the label. Many artists from the label’s roster (and a few that aren’t) are scheduled to be on hand for this celebration, including Anthony Hamilton, Bone Crusher, Bow Wow, Da Brat, Dem Franchize Boyz, Jagged Edge, J-Kwon, Kris Kross, Lil Jon, Ludacris, Nelly, Youngbloodz and Xscape.
7:30 p.m. Feb. 23. $56.15-$267.35. Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree St. N.E., Atlanta. 404-881-2100.

Nnenna Freelon
Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Freelon pays tribute to the life and legacy of Lena Horne with this performance. The versatile vocalist has collaborated with artists as diverse as opera superstar Jessye Norman, the Roots and George Benson.
8 p.m. Feb. 23. $30-$55. Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech, 349 Ferst Drive N.W., Atlanta. 404-894-9600.

The Association
It’s often overlooked, but the harmony-rich pop of the Association was a huge presence in 1967, a year we usually associate with more psychedelic goings-on. The current band includes four of the six guys who hit the top of the charts that year with “Windy.”
8 p.m. Feb. 23. $30. Jennie T. Anderson Theater, 548 S. Marietta Parkway S.E., Marietta. 770-528-8490.

THURSDAY
Solange
Beyoncé’s sister Solange is only compared with her sister because of their family ties. They’re very different artists. Could you see Beyoncé collaborating with Athens band Of Montreal or experimental indie buzz band the Dirty Projectors? We’re still waiting for Solange’s third solo album, but she recently released an EP titled “True,” which has a definite ’80s vibe. For more, check out her underappreciated 2008 album “Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams.”
7 p.m. Feb. 28. $22 in advance. The Masquerade, 695 North Ave. N.E., Atlanta. 404-577-8178.

Wayne ‘the Train’ Hancock
Close up the honky-tonks, because anyone who wants to hear some genuine old-school country or good-time Western swing should be here. Hancock is keeping some of our finest American musical traditions alive.
8:30 p.m. Feb. 28. $15. Vinyl, 1374 W. Peachtree St. N.W., Atlanta. 404-885-1365.
