In her first performance since last year’s Grammy Awards, Adele didn’t quite slay with her performance of “Skyfall” in the same way that Jennifer Hudson bulldozed “And I Am Telling You,” but point the finger at a terrible sound mix and aggressive orchestra.
Side note: Did they ship that orchestra in from down the street at Capitol Records, too? Have you ever heard of such craziness?
Anyway, as one industry insider observed, this will be the show that is remembered for turning UP Russell Crowe’s mic and turning down Adele. Shameful.
But at least Adele – who looked fabulous with her fluffy hair – received redemption in the form of her first Oscar for Best Original Song, which puts her halfway to an EGOT!
Though she didn’t look shocked (really, this was even less suspenseful than Anne Hathaway’s win), Adele started crying when thanking those involved with the film for “always believing in me” and then tossed in a typically off-the-cuff, “And my man -- I love you, baby!”
What was your favorite musical part of the Oscars? Shirley Bassey boldly doing “Goldfinger”? Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were,” which was as sleek as her Cher-ish locks? J-Hud showing every young singer how it’s done? Or was Adele your highlight? Sound off below.
