Every now and then Prince pops his head out to remind listeners of his brilliance.
The work might not always be stellar, but it’s usually interesting enough to catch your attention for a few minutes.
His latest “return” is, actually, a nifty little power pop tune called “Screwdriver.” The song trades in Prince-ly funk for driving guitars and a chorus that could be a stew made from the best of Green Day, The Cars, The Rolling Stones and even a little Styx. Prince, meanwhile, unleashes a raspy rock vocal that sounds both youthful and energetic.
In typical Prince fashion, the song – which does have a hint of naughtiness to its chorus – is being used to introduce his new website (http://20pr1nc3.com/ ) and his new all-female band (guitarist Donna Grantis, drummer Hannah Ford and bassist Ida Nielsen - rumored to the be the reference behind the recently created 3rdEyeGirl Twitter handle that was the source of the leaked track a few days ago).
A couple of weeks ago Prince played six shows over three nights- announced at the last minute, of course – in Minneapolis, the first time he's performed at home since 2007.
So are you excited about this latest emergence of Prince?
