Atlanta’s soul man Cee Lo Green has been cleared of charges that alleged he drugged and assaulted a woman more than a year ago.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney will throw out the sexual assault case due to insufficient evidence. But Green (legally known as Thomas DeCarlo Calloway) has been charged with one felony count of furnishing ecstasy, according to the D.A.'s office.
TMZ reported that the unidentified woman, 33, claimed Green slipped the drug into her drink after meeting him in July 2012 at a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles, where “The Voice” judge spends much of his time. She alleged that the next thing she remembered was waking up naked in a bedroom at her hotel with the singer in the room.
One discrepency with the woman’s story was that she and Green had supposedly been dating for months and had already been intimate. Green denied all of the allegations and encouraged the D.A. to fully investigate.
The woman also claimed to have recordings of Green apologizing and making reference to MDMA, the drug commonly known as "ecstasy." The D.A. reportedly used the recordings as a confession to drug use.
As for possible punishment, he could face up to four years in state prison.
Green appeared in Los Angeles court on Monday afternoon, entered a "not guilty" plea and posted a $30,000 bond. He is due back in court on Nov. 20.
