The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, four days of heat, sweat and rock is upon us.

The festival kicks off June 12 in a 700-acre field in Manchester, Tennessee.  Originated in 2002, thousands of music fans brave the heat for a chance to rock out with their favorite artists live on 13 different stages.

This year Bonnaroo brings the hype with performances from Elton John, Kanye West and Wiz Khalifa. The SuperJam mash-ups get interesting with Janelle Monae, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Zedd and Robby Krieger (of The Doors). Comedian T.J. Miller will take the comedy theatre stage along with Rory Scovel and Sasheer Zamata.

Miller, who will never forget a performance in Atlanta at the Punchline where a man rushed on stage trying to fist fight him, will perform two shows at Bonnaroo 1-4 p.m. Friday, June 13. He still loves coming to Atlanta and looks forward to bringing a high energy set to Bonnaroo.

Miller on Atlanta.

“Atlanta was amazing. Like the people, it’s fun. It’s fun. It’s smart people who like to drink and work and have a southern sensibility but it’s still very metropolitan. It was really fun. I’m excited to go back down there.”

Miller on Bonnaroo performance.

“I try and like make it more of a festival set so I want to make it like bigger, I’ll do these bits that are sort of bigger and I can do improv and stuff like that. It’s really exciting.”

The SuperJam mash-up featuring Robby Krieger (of The Doors) will take place 12-2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 on the “This Tent” stage.

Krieger on pulling off a successful collaboration.

“I have no idea what we’re going to do or what it’s going to sound like. But whatever it is, it should be fun. I think they want to try to do some - a couple of Doors songs and some reggae songs and I’m not sure how Skrillex is going to fit into that. I know he plays really loud. So I’m bringing an extra amplifier.”

Krieger on who he is excited to collaborate with during SuperJam.

“Well I don’t really know any of the people except for Mickey Hart. I’m looking forward to playing with him. But, you know, I’ll try anything once.”

Krieger on performing to a festival audience.

“The more people there are the harder it is to connect with them. You know, after about 10,000 people then it’s all kind of the same…- but on the other hand, it’s kind of cool to play to that many people. It doesn’t happen very often.”

Wiz Khalifa will take the “Which” stage 8:15 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 15. He performs right before Elton John who closes Bonnaroo as the last performance of the festival.

Khalifa on returning to Bonnaroo.

“It’s always like a new experience I guess. So I’m just really just looking forward to being there and just having a good time.”

Khalifa on what he enjoys most about festival performances.

“I just like the freedom that you have when you do the festivals, because a lot of the people - they might have one or two favorite songs. But to really get them to enjoy a whole set of brand new material and know that, you know, you’re winning people over, is kind of cool.”

Khlifa on performing right before Elton John.

“That’s pretty legendary. It would be tight if he could see my set or like a piece of it.”
