"Baby bump" and other phrases I'm tired of

Halle Berry

By Jennifer Brett

Halle Berry is a gorgeous and radiant mother-to-be but of course here she is showing off her what? Baby bump.

Eh.

Is anyone else tired of that phrase? If you are, it's understandable. It's everywhere. Anymore it would be positively archaic to refer to an expected mother who is "showing." No, it's all about the baby bump, which sounds like a toddler disco move if you ask me.

Here's a gallery of other celebrity "baby bumps." The phrase is ubiquitous throughout the preggosphere, but that doesn't stop me from wishing it would go away.

Speaking of phrases to shelve, how about "farm-to-table?" I was ready to drive a stake through that one already, and then came word that the 35-year-old restaurant on the 73rd floor of a downtown Atlanta hotel, is closing to renovate and plans to go all "farm-to-table" when they reopen. Anyway, isn't pretty much all food "farm-to-table" to some extent?

I'm still a fan of "wardrobe malfunction," because it was such baloney when it was originally coined.

Here's a gallery of famous wardrobe malfunctions.

But then there's this phrase. Egad.

Are there turns of phrase you're ready to see retire?
