Reese Witherspoon, in Atlanta filming a movie called "The Good Lie," was arrested along with her husband James Toth Friday morning following a traffic stop in Atlanta. The Georgia State Patrol handled the incident.

UPDATE: The case had its first appearance in court Monday morning. Read here to find out what happened.

According to the police report a trooper pulled over a Ford Fusion being driven by Toth not long after midnight on Friday after it failed to maintain its lane.

"As I explained the reason for the stop, I observed that Mr. Toth's eye lids were droopy," the report says." Mr. Toth's eyes were bloodshot and watery. I smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mr. Toth's breath."

As the trooper began field sobriety tests on Toth, Witherspoon got out of the car, the report says.

"I told Mrs. Witherspoon to stay in the vehicle and she sat back in the vehicle," it says. "I had to tell Mrs. Witherspoon several times to get back into the vehicle before she did so. I told Mrs. Witherspoon that I would arrest her the next time she got out of the vehicle."

She evidently did not heed that advice.

"Mrs. Witherspoon began to hang out the window and say that she did not believe that I was a real police officer," the report says. "I told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet. Mrs. Witherspoon stated that she was a 'U.S. Citizen' and that she was allowed to 'stand on American ground.' I put my hands on Mrs. Witherspoon's arms to arrest her. Mrs. Witherspoon was resistant but I was able to put handcuffs on her without incident due to Mr. Toth calming her down."

She wasn't done protesting, the report indicates.

Do you know my name?" Witherspoon asked, according to the report. "You are going to be on national news."

"I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine," the trooper quoted himself saying.

There was evidently another passenger, who took a cab from the scene. It's unknown where the couple was before they were arrested. There's a court hearing on Monday but they're not expected to be present.  Witherspoon's publicist has not yet commented and on Sunday the actress was in New York for the premiere of "Mud," coming out April 26.

Witherspoon has a Twitter account but has not posted anything in several days. On Monday, the day of the Boston Marathon bombings, she tweeted a photo of herself holding a sign that says, "I demand action to end gun violence" and added a note that read, "It's time for change."

"The Good Lie" has been filming at locations including Sugarloaf Mills Mall and Peachtree Baptist Church. Filming took place Friday and Saturday downtown, apparently unimpeded by the incident.
