Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are in metro Atlanta filming a movie and took time out this week to meet Tripp Halstead, the child who's captured hearts across North Georgia and beyond as he continues recovering from a serious injury.
Tripp's dad Bill Halstead posted this message on the Facebook page that has kept supporters updated on his son's progress:
"All I can say is wow, you never know who is reading your story. We received a message yesterday from Kathryn Covert; she is married to Allen Covert, who is best friends with Adam Sandler! She has been following Tripp's story from the very beginning and since they are in Flowery Branch filming a movie called 'Blended' she asked if we could bring Tripp out to meet everyone and show him a good time.
"Everyone treated Tripp like he was the movie star - it was so cute! He really did awesome. He was waving at people and flashing that precious grin of his. We also gave everyone a Teamboom shirt, so hopefully we spot them out and about (or maybe a brief cameo in the movie!) wearing them.
"Tripp had a great night last night and it was so precious, in his sleep he would pick up his arm like he was practice-waving. LOL. Thank you all again so much for everything; hope everyone has a great day!"
The Sandler-Barrymore comedy has also been filming in the Buford, Lawrenceville and the Lake Lanier areas. While "Blended" is its working title, it reportedly has been rechristened "Familymoon." So it's even more fitting that the cast was able to visit with the Halstead family.
Tripp was outside his Winder day care center in October when high winds swept up by Hurricane Sandy brought down a tree limb that struck him on the head. It fractured his skull, and the toddler has been through too many surgeries and hospital stays since then. His family marked a tearful celebration in July at Tripp's homecoming; a dedicated corps of carpenters, contractors, plumbers and painters, organized by the Sunshine on a Ranney Day charity, volunteered their time to renovated the Halstead home to suit Tripp's needs.
