Jane Fonda, Reese Witherspoon, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Jennifer Lawrence and Jake Gyllenhaal have something in common: Watershed on Peachtree. They and other celebs who either live here or visit for movie projects are known for beating a trail to the restaurant famous for its upscale Southern comfort food, particularly the fried chicken.
"We have some celebrity connections with Emily," Chef Joe Truex said, referring to owner Emily Saliers of the Indigo Girls. "Jane Fonda came in pretty early on and she was a fan. She came in and loved it and came back with her ex Ted, who’s got a store down the street. Someone knew Jennifer Lawrence and the next thing you know she comes in and tells all her friends."
On May 23, Truex takes a break from the celebs flocking to his restaurant to join a new galaxy of stars at the Atlanta Opera. During La Belle Soirée, an annual spring fundraiser to benefit the Opera, guests will be serenaded by members of The Atlanta Opera Chorus and will be treated to Truex' fine fare. The ticketed event will take place at the home of Ms. Suzanne Mott Dansby in the West Peachtree Battle neighborhood of Atlanta.
"It’s going to be great," Truex said. "I’m going to create something really kind of out of the box."
The celebrated chef is himself an opera fan, thanks to local radio station AM 1690, known as "The Voice of the Arts."
"Whatever I know about opera, which isn’t much, I learned from listening to 1690," he said. As for how the partnership with the Atlanta Opera came about, he quipped, "Maybe they heard me listening to opera on 1690 in my car!"
Tickets to La Belle Soiréeare $100 per person and can be purchased by contacting Allison DeNiro at email@example.com or 404-591-2928. All proceeds go towards the support of the artistic excellence of The Atlanta Opera.
