The Jim Carrey-Jeff Daniels comedy "Dumb and Dumber To," filming in metro Atlanta for weeks now, heads north for a scene on the Marietta Square today. Information from the Marietta Police Department indicates the action will be happening until about 11 a.m.
Several streets around the Square will be affected and you can count on some traffic tie-ups. If you have to be in court or have jury duty or other business on the Square, you might want to head for the municipal parking garage on Waddell Street, near City Hall. There's also a parking lot behind the Welcome Center, at Mill and Powder Springs streets near the Starbucks.
Don't plan to park anywhere on the Square though. Also, even though First Baptist, First Presbyterian and St. James Episcopal churches have big parking lots on the Square, don't park there unless you're actually going there. If you are coming just to see the movie in action and you have some time on your hands and like to walk, the main Cobb County library is a short hike from the Square. That's a possibility.
Lucky for me it's within walking distance to my house so I'll run up there in a little while, after the sun comes up, to check things out. I went up on Friday afternoon as crews were putting down cables and unloading assorted gear in preparation. It looks like Marietta will portray El Paso in the scene filming there today.
On Sunday Carrey was spotted at the Atlanta Opera, which performs not to far from downtown Marietta, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Our friends at the Opera posted this photo.
