WSB sports director emeritus/UGA sideline reporter Chuck Dowdle and Channel 2 anchor John Bachman are partnering with their radio brethren, 95.5 FM/750 AM traffic reporter Mark Arum and 97.1 FM The River morning host Kaedy Kiely for a great cause. (Full disclosure: All of these folks are of course my corporate cousins, as their outlets and mine are all Cox Media Group properties).

The Paws for Cocktails party, benefiting Furkids and Small Dog Rescue and Humane Society, is planned for 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 7 at Park Tavern, 400 10th Street in Midtown.

The evening features cocktails and hors d'oeuvres along with live music by Yacht Rock Schooner, a raffle and live and silent auctions.

The event is chaired by Elizabeth Azar with host committee members Bachman, Dowdle and Kiely along with Heather Catlin, Mark Drury, Lori Geary, Lynn Grickson, Tiffany Haugen, Preston Hobson, Lisa Loewenstein, Sarah Petermann, Samantha Shelton, Anne Stockton and Lynn and Peter Stroud.

"FurKids is the largest no-kill animal shelter in Georgia, and I am happy to pitch in any way I can," Kiely said. "This event is going to be a blast, and be sure to bring your check book so you can purchase some great auction items as holiday gifts!"

If you go, be sure to congratulate Kiely on her recent honor: she along with WABE's Steve Goss, B 98.5 FM alum Kelly McCoy and the late 95.5 FM/750 AM personality Royal Marshall were among those added to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame's list of Career Achievement inductees.

Furkids is a nonprofit organization that operates the Southeast's largest no-kill shelter for cats and dogs. Its mission is to help end pet overpopulation in Georgia.

"This is a fun night for a great cause," Bachman said. "I hope all animal lovers will take time to stop by and say hi!"

Tickets are $25 at the door or $18 in advance if you purchase by Nov. 4. For information see furkids.org.

To call September “super” would be like calling Garth Brooks “a country singer.” It’s a lot bigger than that.
