Atlanta entertainment mogul Tyler Perry is among the many grieving fans and friends of the late Maya Angelou expressing appreciation and sorrow on social media.
"There have only been a handful of people who have moved me, encouraged me, inspired me and helped mold the man I am. One of those people would be Dr. Maya Angelou. She was a woman I called 'friend,'" he posted along with this nice photo of him with Angelou, who died Wednesday at age 86 in her Winston Salem, N.C. home.
Angelou appeared as "Aunt May" in Perry's movie "Madea's Family Reunion" in 2006.
"Her words and her spirit are too powerful to leave this earth with her passing," Perry wrote. "Her legacy and poems will take wings forever. "Dr. Maya Angelou will live on in all of us who called her a phenomenal woman, phenomenally."
