Clay Aiken still has stalkers!

By Rodney Ho

TMZ reports that Clay Aiken had a stalker who entered his property while he was at home April 3.

Barbara Saylor apparently has been to his property before. She was arrested for misdemeanor stalking and misdemeanor first degree trespassing

Yes, Aiken a decade after the fact still has crazy fans - or at least one crazy one.

Hmm... what is up with Aiken since he came in second on "Celebrity Apprentice" a year ago? I haven't heard much lately if  anybody knows.

"American Idol" vs. "The Voice."

No contest. Here are the numbers for "Idol" last week:

Date, total audience 18-49 rating/share

4/3 11.76 mil 3.1/9

4/4 11.72 mil 2.9/9

And here is "The Voice" last week:

4/1 13.31 mil 4.7/13

4/2 13.93 mil 4.5/14

And last night, the "Voice" numbers went UP in its second week, even against the NCAA championship game.

So viewers are clearly vibing on new judges Usher and Shakira.

Usher, too, has picked two locals already: VEDA and Jamila Thompson. I'll provide more details about them soon.

The Daily Beast lists 7 reasons why "Idol" sucks this year. I think we've been through this before but here are some of them:

- Too much competition, lack of panel chemistry, Mimi's basic crappiness, terrible theme nights, boring contestants, no WGWGs.  Yup, we have discussed them all.

There is no buzz about this show at all anywhere.

Season 9 runner up Crystal Bowersox, on the Shanachie label, has a new album out "All That For This" and it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at 71. Go Crystal!

Season 9 winner what's his name (umm... Lee DeWyze) has signed with Vanguard Records, which has local artists such as the Indigo Girls and Shawn Mullins on its roster as well as John Fogerty, Rodney Crowell and Matt Nathanson. Miracles do happen! Here's the press release:

April 9, 2013 – Vanguard Records is excited to announce the signing of singer/songwriter Lee DeWyze, whose powerful voice is familiar to the millions who watched him win American Idol  in 2010. What these viewers and fans may not know about DeWyze’s other musical gifts: his expressive songwriting, his advanced chops on a variety of instruments or the stylistic approach he employs is inspired by his lifelong love of classic folk-rooted artists like Simon & Garfunkel and Cat Stevens.

The first single, “Silver Lining” from his upcoming summer release will be impacting Triple A radio on June 10th and will be available digitally on  June 11th. Click here to view a live-in-the-studio acoustic performance of the track and here to listen to the single. For his Vanguard debut DeWyze collaborated with renowned producer/songwriters such as Toby Gad, Drew Pearson, Jim Scott, Matthew Wilder and Phil Allen.

“I wanted to take it back to what I’m really about, which is writing emotionally charged, meaningful songs,” the 27-year-old artist explains. I knew what kind of album I wanted to make and knew I could make. The way I see it, everything that’s happened throughout my career has happened so that I can make this record.”

Kevin Welk, President of The Welk Music Group, parent company of Vanguard Records heard the tracks DeWyze recorded and was sufficiently blown away to personally offer the artist a deal. Welk commented, “I am so impressed with Lee as an overall artist. I always knew he could sing but his writing is what sold me. This is a career record for him.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Vanguard Records in releasing Lee DeWyze’s sophomore album. This record is a clear reflection of who Lee is as an artist,” says Jason Morey, EVP and Head of Music of 19 Entertainment.

“Vanguard is the right fit for me—no question,” DeWyze says of the new relationship. “The company has a family feel and a lot of integrity. They care about who they sign, and they’re really focused on the music. You might think they would’ve had certain expectations because of Idol, but that wasn’t the case at all. It was just, ‘We love the music—let’s do this.’ There’s a mutual trust, and that’s a very cool thing.”

Lee DeWyze will be heading out on the road beginning April 18th in Ames, IA making additional stops in Chicago, IL, Columbus, OH, and Nashville, TN with additional dates to be added. Tour dates listed below.

DeWyze is represented by Brett Radin for 19 Entertainment brett.radin@19entertainment.com. His booking agent is Jordan Burger for Fleming Artists jordanburger@flemingartists.com.
