Angie Miller worked the piano Wednesday for "I'll Stand By You" but simply sang "Halo" well.

My personal favorite Janelle Arthur was clearly the least favorite among the judges over the weeks - and what few remaining voters out there this week.

She was at the bottom -- with Kree Harrison! (That's a surprise!) Clearly, Amber Holcomb's strong performances lifted her fan base.

The sweet country singer with the effervescent personality tried to save herself with a bracing, bravura "You Keep Me Hangin' On." But the judges wouldn't keep Janelle hanging around. No save for her, though she did get two votes, including Keith Urban. ("Idol," in a nod to social media, showed a Twitter voting mechanism which showed 60% of the public supported keeping her around.)

Overall, the judges were tough on her over the weeks, more so than the other four women. And she has skated near the bottom before.

Will she have a career? It's certainly possible. Then again, Skylar Laine last year disappeared without a trace.

Jimmy's take on:

- Angie: "Angie feels like she can play the piano and stand up there and sing. She's a great technician. When she sits at the piano, she's believable. But during 'Halo,' her believability, to me, came up a little bit short."

- Candice: She "blew my mind" when "When You Believe," though he wasn't that much of a fan of 'Straight Up." She gets a surprise visit from Paula Abdul after Randy Jackson "fakes" Candice out by saying he couldn't reach her. "I'm the biggest fan ever," she told Candice. It looks like Paula has had some work done on her face. When she hugs Nicki Minaj, you can tell that Nicki is wearing rather low-rise pants and a thong. Classy!

- Janelle: He thought the first song was sleepy and the second song was the right icon, wrong song ("Dumb Blonde"). "Not enough meat on the bones with that one." Dolly Parton did send her a note, saying she shouldn't feel bad about the bad reviews and loves her.

- Amber: "She sings brilliant every week and ends up in the bottom two... she jumped out of a plane without a parachute. She sang Mariah Carey and Barbra Streisand... she will be rewarded."

- Kree: "Kree made the wrong choices... I just feel 'Have You Ever Been in Love' didnt' give her the platform."

On other aspects of the show, which curried quite a bit in nostalgia for the early years:

- The top 5 women do their first group sing minus the guys but wait! There are guy back-up singers/dancers! They do a great tribute to the late great Donna Summer.

- The Ford Fiesta "celebrity scavenger" hunt ad goes 90 seconds. They find Matt Morrison of "Glee." Cross promotion!

- Ryan Seacrest teases Jordin Sparks in the audience by asking her "When is the wedding?" since she is sitting next to her boyfriend Jason DeRulo.

- Whatever happened to... Clay Aiken? "This show is the only reason I'm able to" have a career. He talked about his charity called the National Inclusion Project to help kids with disabilities work with those without. He has traveled with UNICEF. He brings back "Bridge Over Troubled Waters." For a moment, it's 2003 all over again. "I miss Ruben!" Ryan said, joking that it feels just like ten years ago.

- We then go back nine years to the bottom three: Jennifer Hudson, LaToya London and Fantasia. That night, Hudson was cut. Hudson, of course, became a huge star and an Oscar winner. Fantasia had No. 1 hits and hit Broadway. What happened to LaToya? (I was never much of a fan of LaToya personally. She lacked personality in my mind.) She did theater and I do recall she worked with Fantasia on "The Color Purple." She did a punk rock band. She's back in Oakland and hopes to revive her singing career. (That's what all "Idol" has beens say, eh?)

- Fantasia sings "Lose to Win." This is a relatively subtle performance. I know regulars here were not fans of hers but I've generally liked her. She has shown up on "Idol" over the years and has sometimes sounded good, sometimes sounded (and looked) a wreck. In this case, a thumbs up from me. If anyone feels what she's singing, it's Fantasia, right down to the quivering lip.

"Idol" has a dilemma. They left an extra week wiggle room in the schedule. How will they reconcile it? Nobody has said anything yet. Clearly, the "save" was a way to do it but the judges have yet to use it.
