Boxer Victor Ortiz was knocked out in the fifth round of 'Dancing With the Stars."
(I know, could I have not picked a more obvious boxing cliche there?)
"I had a blast," Ortiz said after he was eliminated. Then he added, self deprecatingly, "I definitely need some dance moves."
He had some rhythm and plenty of fight (okay, Rodney, stop the stupid boxing references), but not indeed, a big enough fan base to keep him around any longer. He had been in the bottom two three of the previous four weeks in overall score but did finish week five with his best judges' score to date: 21 for his foxtrot.
On Stevie Wonder night, he just lost out to "Bachelor" Sean Lowe, who was in the bottom two despite a season-high 24 from the judges, ranking him fifth out of eight. This was the first week Lowe was seen to be in any danger going home.
Actor Andy Dick's fan base is keeping him around despite his obvious limitations as a technical dancer. His heart and personality is carrying him despite an 18 for his samba, lowest score of the night. Those 6's were actually a regression from a 21 a week earlier.
Over six dances, the three dancers with the highest average judge scores remain women: Disney star Zendaya (who had the first 10s of the season for any dancer Monday night and a season-high 29), country singer Kellie Pickler (a season best 27) and gymnast Aly Raisman (a 25, down from 27 a week earlier).
Jacoby Jones, the NFL player, has the best shot among the guys to make it to the finals, landing a season-high 26.
