Kordell Stewart's divorce to "Real Housewives of Atlanta" cast member Porsha Stewart Williams has been complete. The website said she will drop her married name and go as Porsha Williams again.
The process took less than nine months, which is relatively quick. The fact they did not have children probably helped hasten the divorce proceedings. The final hearing in Fulton County was set for November 25, but since Kordell and Porsha were able to come to an agreement, it was cancelled.
Kordell, a former NFL player who is now an afternoon host at sports talk station 92.9/The Game, filed for divorce in March after two years of marriage. Porsha has said on the show that she was blindsided. They then went through some ugly back and forth over support payments for her. He did end up giving her some money. She moved to her mother's home in the interim, which has been shown on the TV program.
She also brought up rumors that he was gay, rumors he refuted in a statement in September and in an interview with Ryan Cameron on V-103 a few weeks ago.
His attorney Shiel Edlin sent out a press release. "I'm just a humble divorce lawer doing my job. Never been through this before," Edlin said in a phone interview, sounding bemused by the influx of calls from the media. "They're divorced." Beyond that, he said, " I'm just the man who gave them advice and got them divorced. I'm not his spokesperson."
In the press release, Edlin wrote in part:
As a single dad, Kordell wanted to put his best foot forward by doing what was right in the interest of Syre [his son prior to his marriage to Porsha.] However, the lack of truthfulness by Porsha during the divorce process has been very confusing and hurtful to Kordell and his son...
Porsha will now have the life she so desperately desires. We are also hopeful that Porsha will stop vilifying Kordell at every opportunity. For reasons we cannot understand, she displayed reckless abandonment of anything close to the truth over the last eight months.
Kordell is very encouraged that Porsha will not continue to use his last name, Stewart. She previously stated she was keeping Kordell's last name, which made Kordell very concerned about the damage it could cause. However, she reconsidered and decided to restore her maiden name Williams. Kordell now believes he can restore the Stewart name and brand, for which it has been known through many generations, one of character, integrity, honesty and truthfullness.
I have reached out to Porsha's lawyer Randy Kessler as well. He said Porsha has declined to comment or even release a statement.
"The Real Housewives of Atlanta" has had its best ratings ever this season, averaging more than 3.3 million viewers per week in overnight numbers.
