Georgia-based "Idol" winner Phillip Phillips will be performing at Kennesaw State University March 24. This will be his first solo date in Atlanta, though he did a promotional gig in November at Mall of Georgia. Tickets range from $25 to $30.
It's a large football stadium (Fifth Third Stadium), with at least 8,000 seats. I don't know what the configuration will be for a concert set up.
I heard him talking with Elvis Duran, the syndicated show out of New York. He was charming as always. They joked about the phallic nature of microphones, what he thinks about while singing (he is always worried he'll forget his lyrics), how much he loves sleeping (we know that already!) and his favorite TV show: "The Walking Dead."
His current single "Gone Gone Gone" is climbing the charts. He wasn't even aware that it's being used to promote a new NBC dating show though he probably is aware that seemingly every advertiser is now using "Home."
This gives me another excuse to talk to him next month.

Mandisa is performing with Laura Story and Brandon Heath at the Ferst Center at Georgia Tech March 3. My colleague Melissa Ruggieri interviewed her and will post it on her blog later this week. The season five contestant on "Idol" has had a thriving career in the contemporary Christian music realm. You can buy tix here. There are still plenty of good seats left, priced $31.50 to $41.50.

Jon Peter Lewis, the sweetly awkward singer from season three of 'Idol," has reportedly tried out for "The Voice," according to MJ. He'd be the first finalist to do so though Frenchie Davis from season two (disqualified) made it to the semifinals on the first season of "The Voice." I interviewed him in 2008 if you want to reminisce here.

"X Factor" winner Tate Stevens' debut album is set to debut March 23.

I joined last week's press conference with Keith Urban. He wasn't deeply revealing. I was busy moving so I didn't have time to post what happened. I tried to jog his memory about a concert he did 10 years ago at Wild Bill's in which I did an advance phoner but of course, he had no idea since he's done 1,000 c0ncerts since then. I did ask him if he wanted to perform with the other judges a la "The Voice" and he said he did but he wasn't sure how excited Mariah and Nicki would be about the idea."Idol" sent me the transcript yesterday. Here was his response verbatim:
We’ve been asked that question earlier on in one of the press conferences if we’d be up for singing and I threw my hand up and said, “I’m up for it. Let’s go.” We were met with arousing silence so I figured I’m the only guy. I’m going to keep poking Randy to see if we can put a little band together because I would love to do it. I think it would be fun and I think—I just think it feels quite natural for us to be able to do that.
I also wanted to ask him to justify Zoanette Johnson but could only ask a single question. Fortunately, someone else broached the topic and this was his response:
Well I’ve got a feeling that we’ve done a pretty good job of helping her to this point in the sense of letting America see her extraordinarily unique gifts in full flight. So past that we’ll see what she’s got in store for us because you never know. She’s like a box of chocolates right? You never know what you’re going to get.
And he pimped out Kree Harrison, who could win it all:
Certainly Kree is an extraordinarily gifted singer in an unusual way because she’s so effortless in the way she sings. There’s nothing over the top, sort of big theatrical—there’s nothing theatrical and large about her as a performer. She has this incredibly authentic voice in the same way that Adele has that incredibly authentic voice and I just believe her when she sings. So she’s definitely a contender.
I cover local radio and TV for both the print and online editions. I write a blog on the same topics.
