TV best bets with arrival of 'The Following,' series finales of 'Private Practice,' 'Last Resort'

Three series are closing shop forever: ION's "Flashpoint" (which aired for a few years on CBS) Tuesday, ABC's "Private Practice" Tuesday and ABC's "Last Resort" Thursday.

And one highly anticipated series arrives: Fox's "The Following" starring Kevin Bacon Monday night. He plays a retired FBI agent drawn back into a case when a serial killer he caught gets out of prison again. Apparently, this serial killer has spawned a cult of other serial killers. Bacon shot the pilot here in Atlanta last year.

Otherwise, "Project Runway" comes back for an 11th season on Lifetime Thursday and ABC launches its first new reality show of the season called "The Taste," which includes Anthony Bourdain as a judge.

MONDAY

“The Bachelor” 8 p.m. ABC — Sean takes the ladies to Malibu for beach volleyball.

“The Biggest Loser” 8 p.m. NBC — The trainers visit the kid contestants at home.

“Bones” 8 p.m. Fox — Hodgins fears that Christopher Pelant is back for revenge after he and Angela are drugged.

“How I Met Your Mother” 8 p.m. CBS — Robin adjusts to wearing an engagement ring.

“2 Broke Girls” 9 p.m. CBS — The diner pulls an all-nighter to pull off a monster cupcake order.

“The Following” 9: p.m. Fox (new series) — Former FBI agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is called out of retirement to track down an escaped serial killer.

“Hawaii Five-O” 10: p.m. CBS — The team investigates the murder of a prostitute found in the bed of a missing congressman.

“Castle” 10:01 p.m. ABC — The founder an adult-video franchise is killed.

TUESDAY

“Pioneers of Television” 8 p.m. GPB — Soap operas get the limelight.

“The Taste” 8 p.m. ABC (new series) — In a culinary twist to "The Voice," judges are blindfolded and taste food without seeing it.

“E! Investigates” 9 p.m. E! — A look behind the "50 Shades of Grey" phenomenon

“New Girl” 9 p.m. Fox — Winston and CeCe have an embarrassing encounter.

“The Sisterhood” 9 p.m. TLC — Domonique isn't a fan of Tara's exercise routine.

“Cougar Town” 10 p.m. TBS — Jules frets about a lack of passion in her marriage to Grayson.

“Justified” 10 p.m. FX — Raylan finds himself in trouble with the FBI.

“Parenthood” 10 p.m. NBC (fourth season finale) — Jasmine and Crosby receive exciting news during their anniversary.

“Private Practice” 10 p.m. ABC (series finale) —  Naomi returns for Addison's wedding.

“Flashpoint” 11 p.m. ION (series finale) —  A terrorist sets off bombs in public buildings all across the city.

WEDNESDAY

“American Idol” 8 p.m. Fox — The judges go to Charlotte, N.C. Ratings so far are down from a year ago.

“Criminal Minds” 9 p.m. CBS — Reid deals with a personal loss.

“Modern Family” 9 p.m. ABC — Gloria's mother and sister visit from Colombia now that the baby is here.

“American Horror Story” 10 p.m. FX (second season finale) — Johnny aims to complete his father's work.

“CSI” 10 p.m. CBS — The CSIs investigate a case involving a rising tennis star.

“Hot in Cleveland” 10 p.m. TV Land — Victoria ponders Emmet's past when a woman he used to know resurfaces.

“Nashville” 10 p.m. ABC — Rayna and Juliette's duet becomes a hit.

“Necessary Roughness” 10 p.m. USA (second season winter debut) — USA has given this series, shot in Atlanta, a third season.

“Top Chef” 10 p.m. Bravo — Sushi dishes test the chefs. And what is Josie still doing in the competition?

THURSDAY

“American Idol” 8 p.m. Fox — The judges check out singers in Baton Rouge, La.

“Last Resort” 8 p.m. ABC (series finale) — Chaplin and Kendal must prevent the Colorado from being captured.

“Glee” 9 p.m. Fox — The ladies of New Directions organize a Sadie Hawkins dance for the school.

“Grey’s Anatomy” 9 p.m. ABC — A new doctor arrives and unnerves the staff.

“The Office” 9 p.m. NBC — Dwight tries to stop Darryl from moving to Jim's start-up company.

“Project Runway" 9 p.m. Lifetime (11th season debut) — Sixteen designers arrive in New York City.

“Archer” 10 p.m. FX — Archer's old friend is voiced by Timothy Olyphant.

“Suits” 10 p.m. USA  — The firm tries to recover from the battle with Daniel.

“Kitchen Nightmares” 8 p.m. Fox — A visit to the historic Olde Hitching Post in Hanson, Mass.

“Nikita” 8 p.m. the CW — Nikita and Owen face off against a rogue agent.

“Gold Rush” 9 p.m. Discovery — Parker hits bedrock at Emerson Trench.

“Say Yes to the Dress” 9 p.m. TLC — A bride-to-be visits the salon with three generations of her family.

“Spartacus” 9 p.m. Starz (third season debut) — Spartacus sees his army grow and deals a serious blow to Rome's fighting legions.

“Merlin” 10 p.m. Syfy — Morgana comes dangerously close to getting her revenge on Camelot.

“Portlandia” 10 p.m. IFC — The mayor steps down after an environmental scandal.

WEEKEND

“Abominable Snowman” 9 p.m. Saturday Syfy — Hikers caught in a blizzard find sasquatch footsteps in the snow.

“Saturday Night Live” 11:29 p.m. Saturday NBC — Adam Levine hosts.

“19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards” 8 p.m. Sunday TBS, TNT — Dick Van Dyke receives a lifetime achievement award.

“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” 8 p.m. Sunday Bravo — Kenya gets offended when she hears Phaedra badmouthing her.

“Downton Abbey” 9 p.m. Sunday GPB — Anna uncovers evidence that could clear John.
