WXIA-TV, the local NBC affiliate, has modernized its set and look for 2013.

With guidance from owners Gannett, WXIA revamped the set, shrinking the desk area, opening up the newsroom and featuring a monstrous screen, made up of 12 55-inch screens.  Stories will be color-coded along the lines of USA Today (also owned by Gannett) such as green for finance, a certain type of red for breaking news, yellow is weather and blue for basic news.

The graphics have been de-cluttered as well with the teaser "rundown" bar moved from a vertical on the right hand side to a horizontal bar, which will continue to feature more info on whatever stories are being discussed as well as a ticker for headlines. Fewer stories will be teased on the horizontal bar, but there will be more space to describe the stories.

Brenda Wood explains here.
