Syleena Johnson has seen her profile go up since she joined 'R&B Divas" last year on TV One, which just concluded a second season.
Now she has dug in deep with family issues with Iyanla on the OWN show 'Iyanla: Fix My Life," following Atlanta reality star Sheree Whitfield and radio DJ Sasha the Diva. Johnson's episode airs Saturday, July 27 at 9 p.m.
Life coach and therapist Iyanla Vanzant travels to Alpharetta to help the Grammy-nominated singer and her sisters heal the strained relationship with both of their parents. In particular, Syleena’s relationship with her mother Brenda is at a breaking point. Their relationship has grown increasingly volatile since Brenda moved into Syleena’s house. (Brenda was having health issues.) They are at each other's throats about almost everything and all of the nastiness is impacting Syleena's young sons.
Through emotional heart-to-heart conversations, Iyanla works with the entire family to help them heal, additionally focusing on the root causes of Syleena and Brenda's pain in order to diffuse a situation that threatens to tear mother and daughter apart.
Iyanla's show doesn't always fix every client's lives since she only works with them for a few days. But she gives them a starting point if they want to move forward. Syleena said in an interview that she felt like Iyanla did help her and is starting therapy.
And though TV One hasn't renewed "R&B Divas," Johnson is confident the network will do so. And yes, she really liked the addition of Angie Stone and has no love lost for fellow cast member Nicci Gilbert.
