Just last week, some cynics thought 790/The Zone may have used the Mayhem's insensitive bit about Steve Gleason as an easy excuse to get rid of them.
There are some who now think the Food Network was looking for an excuse to phase out Paula Deen anyway. Why?
Her ratings have been slipping, especially since she came out as diabetic, a revelation that may have damaged her brand of feel-good greasy, Southern food even more than any racist allegations.
The LA Times noted her viewership has dropped 25 percent in the past year. "Paula's Favorite Dishes" had averaged 835,000 viewers year to date this year vs. 1.1 million a year ago. As the L.A. Observer noted, make-over shows like "Restaurant Impossible" and competition shows such as "Chopped," "Food Network Star" and "Guy vs. Rachel" have done better on the network of late than straight-forward cooking shows, which tend to land now on the Cooking Channel. And it notes the irony of "Food Network Star." Most of its winners have disappeared into the ether, save for Guy Fieri.
OWN Network has been happy so far with the ratings of Tyler Perry's Atlanta-shot soap "The Haves and the Have Nots." It has doubled the show's run from 16 episodes to 32 episodes, according to deadline.com.
The show opened with 1.8 million viewers opening night and slipped to 1.4 million the next week and 1.3 million the following two weeks. But at least the numbers stabilized by week four. I won't know how it did last night until later today.
These are nowhere near the numbers Perry's shows did on TBS but TBS is more widely distributed than OWN.
Kristin Klingshirn of the Bert Show had a flirtation a few months back with a member of the band One Direction Niall. They reunited last week when One Direction were interviewed and things went fine. But after Jeff Dauler and Bert Weiss did a mock re-enactment of Kristin of her meeting with Niall and posted it. Some fans thought they were mocking Niall when in fact they were more mocking Kristin. So a surprise Tweet war began. Some teen fans of One Direction began using the most vile language on Twitter against them and the whole situation trended on Twitter yesterday.
At least it started a serious conversation about cyber bullying.
Andrew Moore, a 28-year-old test prep instructor from Buford, Ga., won his sixth consecutive game of "Jeopardy" in an episode that aired Monday. That's a far cry from the Ken Jennings' 74-game win streak. But it's still impressive and he pocketed $137,803. His streak ended Tuesday night. He entered that last question with a $5,000 lead but missed the final question and bet too much money so the man in second jumped ahead into first.
And here's an exclusive shot Life & Stye magazine got of NeNe Leakes getting remarried to Gregg, which will be chronicled this fall on "I Dream of NeNe," a Bravo spinoff show of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta." The event happened at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead June 22, 2013. You can see more info at Life & Style magazine.
