The surprise hiring of Kim "The Kimmer" Peterson and Pete Davis at All News 106.7 last week meant less money for the regular news staff.
The result: morning host Michelle Wright was laid off.
Wright, a Connecticut native, was an original morning host on the station when it launched in May, 2012. Prior to All News, she worked as an anchor and editor for seven years at CNN Radio before that group was dismantled in 2012. Before that, she worked at a news/talk station in Orlando.
Her former colleague and remaining morning host Andy Rose is holding the reigns from 5 to 9 a.m. solo, according to the current schedule.
The station has been averaging just shy of a 2 rating, ranked 20th among all stations in recent months. Last month, the station not only added the Kimmer talk show from noon to 3 p.m. but picked up the Atlanta Braves starting in 2014 from Rock 100.5. They also air Georgia Tech basketball as well as some paid programming on weekends.
The Kimmer, who worked at news/talk 640/WGST-AM from 1992 to 2006, could certainly help the station pick up endorsement money from particular advertisers. Less than two weeks in and despite a heart attack, he's already doing advertisements for a dentistry group and a Harley dealership.
