BET just announced their nominees for this year’s BET awards. Doja Cat is leading the pack with six nominations. She is nominated for album of the year for “Planet Her”, best female hip-hop artist, best female R&B/pop artist, BET Her for “Woman,” and two awards for her song “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA, for video of the year and best collaboration. Doja’s star power is clear as she is this year’s only artist, male or female, to be nominated in both R&B/pop and hip-hop categories.

Ari Lennox and Drake aren’t too far behind as they both have four nominations. Future and Lil Baby are representing for Atlanta, both coming in with three nominations. They’re in good company, as Jazmine Sullivan, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J Blige, Chloe, Baby Keem, and Silk Sonic also have three nominations.

While it has been weeks since the Oscars, chatter has already started online regarding Will Smith’s attendance. He is nominated for Best Actor, alongside several tough opponents, like Denzel Washington for The Tragedy of Macbeth, Sterling K Brown for This Is Us and even his own protégé, Jabari Banks for his role as “Will” in the Peacock original series, Bel Air. After all of Will’s drama that came from the Oscars, when he walked on stage and smacked Chris Rock, he has been keeping a low profile, so there’s no telling if he’ll actually show up or not.

The Best Actor category is not the only one with stiff competition. Three albums that were up for Grammy’s are now nominated again at the BET Awards. Those albums include Kanye West’s Donda, Doja Cat’s Planet Her, and H.E.R.’s album Back of My Mind.

Not everyone is happy about this year’s nominations though. Lil Nas X took his frustrations to twitter, in a now deleted tweet, saying “thank you bet awards. An outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!”

Yikes!
