This Halloween season, get ready to save the 90s era video store in an immersive haunting event. The popular Moviebuster experience is back in a new location in downtown Atlanta, and this time it’s draped in Y2K horror!

After a successful run in Marietta that was drenched in nostalgia from the late 1980s and early 1990s, Underground Atlanta will bring the interactive experience forward in time, thrusting visitors into the action from the best horror films of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

“We’re the haunt experience for those that love comedy and campy fun with their scares, which was archetypal to movies of that era,” director Erin Stegeman said in a press release.

The 90-minute experience begins when guests enter the “Moviebuster” store and interact with some of their favorite characters from those movies — and compete for prizes. It’s a combination of campy nostalgia, interactive theater, and escape room that will surely bring back memories for anyone who grew up watching the iconic movies on VHS. Moviebuster will also include a themed bar where you can enjoy nostalgic drinks before or after your show.

The team at Into the Film, who produces the interactive show, is no stranger to the interactive theater experience. In 2017, they created “A Night at the Opera,” an experience that allowed guests to enter the world of 1880s Paris to become part of one of the most famous stories of all time: “The Phantom of the Opera.”

“We are all massive cinephiles who have been hungry for a new way to experience film, bringing it to life with immersive theater,” Into the Film co-founders Erik Mihlsten and Alena Geffner-Mihlsten said in the release. “With the massive growth of the film industry in Atlanta over the last several years, we believe it’s the perfect location to thrust an audience right into the action at the intersection of film and theater.”
