19 must-do Atlanta homecoming events in October

October marks a time for tasting pumpkin spice, preparing for Halloween and−last but not least − attending highly anticipated homecoming festivities.

Atlanta colleges and universities are known for bringing major school spirit when it involves homecoming. From watching the bands break it down during halftime to enjoying concerts, college students, alumni and even locals will be drawn to these colleges for a fun-filled, action-packed week of events.

Here's your guide to the top college homecoming events at Clark Atlanta University, Georgia State University, Morehouse College and Spelman College.

Clark Atlanta University

Historically black colleges and universities are known for their school spirit, and Clark Atlanta University is no different. Expect the homecoming festivities from Oct. 16-22 to go down in record books. The Alumni Weekend package is $70 and the full week costs $150.   • The Coronation Ball will start the week off on Oct. 16.
  • Come out to Roar-N-Out to see a showcase of student talent on Oct. 18.
  • Attend a hip-hop concert on Oct. 19.
  • Watch fashions grace the runway on Oct. 20.
  • Don't forget to be at the Greek Step Show on Oct. 21.
  • The Gospel Explosion will close out homecoming festivities on Oct. 22.

Georgia State University

Show your Panther school spirit at this college's homecoming events Oct. 12-21. From events geared toward everyone from commuter students to alumni, there's fun for all at this downtown Atlanta research university.

Plenty of festivities are happening in each of the university's campuses, including the ones in Atlanta, Alpharetta, Clarkston, Newton and Dunwoody. Here are a few standout events. For more ticket and event information, visit Georgia State's website.

  • Start homecoming week off right by attending Good Morning Georgia State to grab free food and giveaways Oct. 16.
  • The homecoming block party will be in full swing on the Atlanta Campus Oct. 17.
  • A variety show filled with talented students is Oct. 18 on the Atlanta campus.
  • The 15th annual golf cart parade on Oct. 19 will be a high point during Georgia State's homecoming.
  • The homecoming football game against Troy will be at the Georgia State stadium on Oct. 21. Come hungry because Spotlight and the Alumni Association will be giving out free food during their tailgates.

Morehouse College

Expect Morehouse to celebrate homecoming in a major way from Oct. 15-22. With live entertainment and concerts, there are many ways for attendees to show school spirit.

  • Watch models sashay down the runway at the Elegance Fashion Show on Oct. 16.
  • A rhythym and blues concert is slated for Oct. 17 and a hip-hop concert is on Oct. 18.
  • Get your spot to see the AUC Homecoming Parade, which includes Morehouse, Clark Atlanta and Spelman College on Oct. 21.
  • See Morehouse play Benedict College during the homecoming game on Oct. 21.  

Spelman College

The ladies of Spelman have an event-packed weekend planned for homecoming from Oct. 19-22. These events are geared to alumnae and students. Find out ticket and event information on Spelman's website. Here's some of the week's must-be-there events.

  • Homecoming: Arts and Entertainment Convocation will be on Oct. 19.
  • The Alumnae Homecoming Market featuring vendors and music will be on Oct. 20.
  • During the Alumnae Homecoming Party with a Purpose Tailgate Experience, you’ll network with Spelman sisters and enjoy tasty southern BBQ available for purchase on Oct. 21.
  • Visit the Sisters Chapel for the Alumnae Homecoming Spelman Sisters Worship Together event on Oct. 22.
