Here's where to snag free doughnuts on National Doughnut Day in Atlanta

Free doughnut time is nigh, friends.

National Doughnut Day will be celebrated for the 78th time Friday, so that means free and discounted doughy, sugary goodness across metro Atlanta.

The day, established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army, honors the women who served doughnuts to servicemen during World War 1.

Doughnut shops across the city are celebrating with freebies, discounts and special fundraisers honoring the day's sweet treat and original mission.

Here's a list of where to get doughnut deals Friday in metro Atlanta:

Krispy Kreme — Krispy Kreme customers will offer customers any free doughnut of their choice at participating locations.

Revolution  Doughnuts — The Decatur doughnut shop is celebrating its fourth anniversary and National Doughnut Day by offering a free birthday-cake-themed, mini-doughnut with a purchase (while supplies last.)

Sweet Apple Donut —  Free doughnuts all around at this Alpharetta doughnut shop Friday. Sweet Apple Donut, 5430 McGinnis Ferry Rd #106, Alpharetta.

Twisted Doughnuts— The Gwinnett doughnut destination will offer all customers one free doughnut per person from its tier 1 doughnut collection (while supplies last.) Twisted Doughnuts, 3153 Sugarloaf Pkwy #114, Lawrenceville.

Dunkin Donuts —  At all participating locations, customers can pick up a free doughnut with the purchase of a beverage.

Da Vinci’s Donuts— In Sandy Springs and Alpharetta, those passionate about DaVinci's doughnuts will have a free offering of one doughnut at either of the shops two locations. DaVinci's Donuts, 131 S. Main St, Alpharetta and  5610 Glenridge Dr, Sandy Springs.

Though the newish doughnut shop Sublime Doughnuts  will not be giving away the treats, customers can still stop by and purchase a doughnut at either its Midtown or North Druid Hills, where a percentage of proceeds will go to The Salvation Army to honor the holiday's originating, charitable mission.
