The movie officially opens worldwide on March 9 and has generated buzz since the film’s director Ava Duvernay released the trailer in July 2017. The flick follows Meg and her younger brother as they attempt to save their astrophysicist father Alex from captivity on a distant planet deep in the throes of a universe spanning evil.
In addition to the thrilling plot, “A Wrinkle in Time” has also been the talk of Hollywood talking due to the ground it breaks for women of color. With this potential blockbuster, Duvernay will become the first black woman to direct a live-action film with a budget of over $100 million.

The “A Wrinkle in Time” contest is made possible through Urban News & Views, a partnership between the AJC and Kiss 104.1 FM, which launched in 2017. The media companies, both part of Cox Media Group-Atlanta, started the initiative to feature news and information focused on diverse culture and communities in metro Atlanta.
“Often the media is criticized for not fulfilling the promise of more coverage, and more accurate coverage, of ethnic communities,” said Monica Richardson, the AJC’s managing editor.
“Urban News & Views is aimed at fulfilling that promise. It doesn’t meet all the needs but it’s a fresh start, building off the strong news and entertainment foundation of the AJC and Kiss 104.1 brands.”
