Free things to do: Santa Speedo Run, High Museum, movies

Grab a blanket and a few friends for a fun night on the Square in Downtown Covington! They will show a family-friendly Christmas movie on the Square with a special appearance by The Grinch. Photos with The Grinch are free if you use your own camera or you can pay for a professional photo from the photographer on site

The 9th annual Atlanta Santa Speedo Run will feature hundreds of runners coming together in Midtown at Hudson Grille to run a mile in their Speedos and holiday-inspired swimwear. The pre-party starts at 12 p.m and the fun run starts at 2 p.m. All proceeds from the Atlanta Santa Speedo Run will support the work of local charity Bert’s Big Adventure, which is a nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. It's free to watch the runners make their way down Peachtree.

On the second Sunday of each month, the High Museum offers free admission for all visitors from noon to 5 p.m. and special programming from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring the entire family and enjoy art-making activities, tours, performances, and the High’s collection and special exhibitions. Each month has a new theme and adventures.

Get in the holiday spirit with Game-X at Gaming with Santa. Come in and enjoy hot drinks, games, writing letters to Santa and more. The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m.

Come out to Norcross to enjoy a free viewing of "Patriots Day," a powerful account of the Boston Marathon bombing. Police Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again. The film weaves together the stories of Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman), Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan).

Head to the Living Room for special screenings of Krog Street’s favorite holiday movies. Catch A Christmas Story on December 12, and enjoy the American classic, It’s A Wonderful Life, on December 19. Screenings begin promptly at 6:00 pm and are free to the public.
