Free things to do this weekend: Macy's Tree Lighting, CeeLo Green, 'Justice League'

Don’t miss out on the chance to enjoy complimentary beer from local breweries and a bevy of staged readings from Atlanta theatre makers at the festival, as well as a variety of performances and guest artist workshops over the course of the festival.

Opening night festivities which include a free showing of "Justice League" for the first 100 people who line up starting at 5 PM for the 7 PM screening. All attendees who come between 5 - 7 PM will also be eligible for a drawing for free movie tickets. 

The holiday season is upon us. Starting Saturday at noon, bring your kids to this Atlanta tradition as Santa and Mrs. Claus roll in the holidays. Enjoy festive holiday performances in Central Park throughout the day. After a long list of festivities throughout the afternoon, gather your friends for Santa’s Parade through Atlantic Station beginning at 8 p.m. Santa will then take center stage in Central Park to light the 50-foot Christmas tree at 8:30 p.m.

If you love music, specifically the trumpet, come out and experience the fun of meeting and playing with your fellow trumpet players in a non-competitive atmosphere. Rehearse in ensembles on Saturday and perform in concert on Sunday afternoon. There are no auditions. Bring your horn and pick the parts you want to play. There are three levels of ensembles: middle school, high school and adult; appropriate for players of all abilities.

Make your way to the largest multicultural event in the state of Georgia. Enjoy world-renown and local musicians, singers and performers. Also, take advantage of hundreds of exhibitors, family activities, arts and crafts and incredible international food. The event will take place Sunday at The Meadow at Piedmont Park.  

Join Channel 2 Action News anchor Jovita Moore and sports director Zach Klein as hosts for the Macy’s Great Tree Lighting Show. Before the big show, enjoy a fun parade celebration with Macy’s Lenox Square as they bring the magic of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to you. Kids can enjoy face painting, balloon twisting, arts and crafts and interactive fun to create their very own parade throughout the store. 

Following the parade, the pre-show will begin at 6:30 p.m., with the tree lighting starting at 7 p.m. This year’s show features performances by CeeLo Green, Casting Crowns, RaeLynn and Angelica Hale. The Macy’s All-Star Choir will fill the air with beautiful holiday songs as the 56-foot great tree lights up with 45,000 multi-colored LED lights and Santa makes his grand debut. Then, the evening will be capped by a spectacular firework display set to holiday music.

Join the Dunwoody Homeowners Association, with Dunwoody Preservation Trust and the Dunwoody for this family-fun event. The Christmas Village opens at 3 p.m. and concludes with the lighting of the tree and menorah at 5:45 p.m. Santa will welcome children with his sleigh and reindeer. Please bring your own camera for photo opportunities. Vendors will offer wonderful holiday treasures and refreshments. The event will take place at the Cheek-Spruill Farmhouse.
