Metro Atlanta musicians who want to play SXSW, pay attention to this

UPDATE (March 15): Singer Cydnei Chyan was chosen as the winner. She performed at the DeKalb Entertainment Commission/ChooseATL House at South by Southwest on Monday.

ORIGINAL STORY: Two metro Atlanta groups are hosting a competition that’ll send an amateur musician to play at SXSW next month.

The “ChooseATL Tracklanta” competition, from the DeKalb Entertainment Commission and ChooseATL, is open to any genre. The winner will perform at the ChooseATL House at SXSW on March 12 in Austin, TX.

Submissions will be accepted via SoundCloud until midnight on Feb. 23; there is no entry fee. Entrants must be metro Atlanta residents, at least 21 years old and unsigned musicians who aren’t associated with a label or distribution company. Read more details here.

The winner will be selected through a review process led by record producer Kawan “KP” Prather, who will also provide an evaluation of the winner’s performance.

The prize includes rehearsal time at Atlanta’s Stage Audio Production in preparation for SXSW and a recording session with Atlanta-based music engineer Bill Zimmerman at Callanwolde Fine Art Center's new studio at the Rick Baker School of Music and Music Recording
