Want to summit Kennesaw Mountain on Thanksgiving? You have to earn it

You’ll have to earn this view from Kennesaw Mountain of Thanksgiving Day.

There’ll be no cheating on Thanksgiving if you want to experience the view atop Kennesaw Mountain.

The road to the summit will be closed on Turkey Day, so you and yours will have to hoof it, said park ranger Jake Boling.

On Friday (aka National Turkey Sandwich Day), the shuttle will ferry folks to the top.

It’s worth it. The park had 2,360,256 visits in 2016, making it the 44th-most-visited federal park that year.

In general, the park and its restrooms will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., but the visitors center will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Boling said.

Think of this as a way to get a head start on that New Year’s resolution to lose a couple pounds.

However, this may be the new normal for Kennesaw Mountain.

In August, the park proposed expanding the shuttle from a weekend service to a seven-day deal and also prohibiting all other motor vehicles from the road. There’d also be a fee for parking.

And if you’d rather spend your time Black Friday shopping, check out how that’s going to work this year at Cumberland Mall and Town Center at Cobb.
